AstroInsights' earlier Personality/Soul/Hierarchical layers already read the same chart three times, through three different rulership systems. Triple Superimposition (Triple Sun) takes this a step further -- rather than just changing which ruler is consulted, it recasts the entire wheel three separate times, each with its own starting point, and overlays the results.
The Three Arms
Each of the three wheels has its own '1st Arm' -- the point treated as that wheel's beginning, from which every other house is counted outward using whole-sign houses (each house is one full 30-degree sign, not a divided, unequal segment).
Sun of Possibility (Soul) -- anchored on the Ascendant, the sign actually rising at the moment of birth. This wheel is read through each sign's Esoteric Ruler, and reveals what the soul intends to develop through this incarnation.
Sun of Probability (Personality) -- anchored on the Sun's own sign. This wheel is read through each sign's Exoteric Ruler, and reveals the personality's outward, everyday expression -- the most familiar and visible of the three readings.
Sun of Completion (Monadic Purpose) -- anchored on the sign directly opposite the Sun. This wheel is read through each sign's Hierarchical Ruler, and points toward the least personal, most service-oriented dimension of the chart -- what this incarnation ultimately serves, beyond the individual life.
Why the Sign Opposite the Sun
This isn't an arbitrary choice. Within this tradition, the Monad -- the deepest, most impersonal level a chart can point to -- is described as working through the sign opposite the Sun, while the Soul works through the Rising Sign and the Personality through the Sun's own sign. The three arms aren't three unrelated calculations; they follow directly from this teaching about how personality, soul, and monadic purpose each anchor to a specific, structurally determined point in the same chart.
The Three Arms and the Three Crosses
The three arms carry a deeper structural meaning tied to another core teaching in this tradition: the three Crosses of the zodiac -- Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable -- each said to govern a different stage of a soul's unfoldment, not just a category of signs.
The Mutable Cross (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) governs the ordinary, incarnating personality -- the everyday give-and-take of a life still primarily oriented toward personal experience. This maps to the Sun of Probability arm: the personality-level reading, read through exoteric rulers, is fundamentally mutable-cross territory -- changeable, responsive, shaped by immediate circumstance.
The Fixed Cross (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) governs the disciple's path -- the stage where a soul, no longer simply reacting to life, begins fixing its will on a deliberately chosen direction and holding that direction against real resistance. This maps to the Sun of Possibility arm: the soul-level reading, read through esoteric rulers, is fixed-cross work -- the sustained, tested aspiration Esoteric Astrology associates with genuine discipleship.
The Cardinal Cross (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) is described as fully understood only after initiation -- the stage of directed, initiating spiritual will, acting not from personal desire or even disciplined aspiration, but from alignment with a larger purpose. This maps to the Sun of Completion arm: the Hierarchical/Monadic reading, read through Hierarchical rulers, belongs to cardinal-cross territory -- the level this platform treats with particular reserve, since it describes a capacity for directed spiritual initiative that few readers will have consciously activated yet.
Read together, the three arms and the three Crosses describe the same single arc from two different angles: an incarnating personality shaped by circumstance (Mutable/Probability), maturing into a soul with a fixed, tested purpose (Fixed/Possibility), and pointing finally toward a still further capacity for initiating spiritual will that belongs to a different order of development entirely (Cardinal/Completion).
One Set of Planets, Three Readings
It's worth being clear about what doesn't change across the three wheels: the actual planetary positions. A person's Mars is in the same degree of the same sign in all three wheels. What changes is only which sign is being treated as 'first' -- and therefore, which house every other planet is counted into, and which rulership system (Exoteric, Esoteric, or Hierarchical) is used to interpret what's found there. The same birth moment, read three structurally distinct ways.
Where This Technique Comes From
This method draws on Alice Bailey's Esoteric Astrology and its three-fold rulership system (Exoteric, Esoteric, and Hierarchical rulers for every sign), combined with a specific technique for applying that system across three fully recast whole-sign wheels rather than a single chart. The whole-sign house convention itself, and much of the rulership and Ray verification underlying this platform, draws on Walter Pullen's Astrolog software and its published esoteric astrology tables.
